My Kid will be eating Kraft Dinner for the next two weeks!
Luc Pasquin organized a sleepover in his ice hut with his kids one evening early in 2008. His oldest, Jeremy left the car window open after retrieving some gear and during the night it snowed. Pictured is the what Luc and Jeremy found the next morning. He told us that it took more than 5 hours to thaw out the car.

Ice Fishing Hosers
Whew! What were these guys thinking? Ray Cartier emailed us this photo of two hosers who probably fell asleep on the ice and woke up in April! Ray didn't mention where the photo was taken, but we don't think it was at Petrie Island.

If you thought it was cold around here, check this out!
On those cold days on the ice at Petrie Island, you just have to wonder if it's really that cold. This is an photo of Niagara Falls taken in 1911 when the falls almost froze completely. Makes you wonder just how cold and how long it was that cold to freeze solid the powerful water pressure of the river and the falling water.

Make Your Holes A Little Bigger This Season
Holy Crap! This is a fish to remember! This monster sturgeon was caught in May 2006 in Kincardine Harbour on the southeast shores of Lake Huron. It weighed over 1000 pounds and was over 11 feet long with a 56 inch girth! There is not much chance of catching this guy around here, but his brother might be close by, so just a warning: make your holes just a little larger this season.

Ya gotta check this out!
Squint your eyes a little and maybe cock your head a bit. At first sight you might think the photo below is a crop circle or something. Some might think it could be the lay-out for a British garden maze or crazier still, a close-up of fire ants in formation. It's actually an aerial photo of a 1955 ice fishing derby on White Bear Lake, Minnesota.
Go ahead! Double click the pic to see the full sized version. The outside rings are parked cars. The star and the ring around the star are pedestrian walkways, and all the specs in and around the ring are people ice fishing! The middle of the star has a few restaurants, a bait and tackle shop, toilets and the reception area. To guage the size of the event, try counting the cars! Could an event like this ever happen at Petrie Island?
